All you would have to do is rewrite it ;) You can specify to pmake exactly what option should be given to the shell to set verbose and non-verbose mode; you might be able to work something out on this. I guess it boils down to a choice of feature sets. Your posting was the first I'd even heard of ksh's $ENV feature. I can see how it could be an interesting tool, but...
